🎓 Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications and experience criteria:
- Grade 12 certificate (Standard 10) or equivalent qualification.
- Exposure to alien vegetation clearing, integrated fire management, and law enforcement duties will be advantageous.
- Valid driver’s license is essential.
- Basic knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards.
- Must be physically fit to handle outdoor work.
- Understanding of basic maintenance and inspection procedures.
- Good hygiene and housekeeping practices.
- Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and policies applicable to conservation.
- Basic First Aid knowledge.
- Must have own transport to travel to and from the workplace.
- Availability to perform standby duties on weekends and public holidays.
Additional Requirements:
- Chainsaw and brush cutter competency will be a strong advantage.
- Experience operating machinery and tools used in conservation or maintenance work.

🌱 Key Duties and Responsibilities
The appointed General Worker will perform various operational and physical conservation duties. Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with invasive plant and alien animal management programmes.
- Supporting natural soil erosion control and rehabilitation projects.
- Participating in fire protection and management activities, including wildfire suppression, prescribed burns, and firebreak preparation.
- Carrying out infrastructure maintenance, including upkeep of buildings, roads, hiking trails, footpaths, gardens, signage, and tourism facilities.
- Maintaining staff villages and park terrain to ensure a safe and presentable environment.
- Performing general forestry tasks, including planting, clearing, and trimming.
- Following all SANParks safety and operational standards.
The role requires an individual who can work effectively within a team, follow instructions accurately, and contribute positively to environmental management objectives.
